About Me

My name is Carola Medina and I am studying journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. I am an aspiring sports journalist and I hope to work in Madrid after I graduate. My goal in life is to one day become a sports writer with a focus on European football.

I am originally from Houston, Texas where I graduated from South Houston High School in the spring of 2013. Throughout my four years at South Houston, I distinguished myself as a leader among my peers. I was president of the National Honor Society chapter at our school and the president of the debate team. I also held leadership positions for the journalism club at my school as executive producer and lead anchor for the newscast.

These leadership roles helped me developed into responsible person who works well under pressure and deadlines. I learned how to work with different types of people, and how to solve problems in a manner that benefited all parties involved. I enjoyed being a leader and taking charge of situations. It is a role I have always been comfortable in, and it is an aspect of my personality that has helped me succeed in the past. I also owe much of my success to my competitive nature. I believe in constantly working to improve. There is always another level to reach and I am endlessly reaching for that next level.

I discovered my admiration and passion for journalism during my senior year of high school. I enjoyed discussing and researching topics that were important to the students, and informing them about relevant issues that affected their daily lives. My role as executive producer also helped me appreciate the hard work that goes into preparing a successful newscast. My love for writing and sports combined with my newly found passion for journalism helped me decide on my future career. Now I attend the Moody College of Communication at UT where I am refining my writing skills, and developing my storytelling abilities for my future career.
